John

John, a 16-hand red roaned appy, is the energizer bunny of the herd and surprises us all with how well he looks for his 31 years. He hates to be left behind and is adamant about getting his food on time. The children love his calm demeanor and often won’t ride any other horse.

Summer

Summer is a 13-year-old Quarter horse/Arabian Palomino and the diva of the herd. She really needs to have her clothes fitting properly! Summer is a very hard working therapy horse who is responsive to every child’s needs, but she is picky about her cues and won't give away anything for free!

Chance

This 10-year-old, 14.2 hand Bay Quarter/Morgan has a dual personality. One moment he can be so lovable and the next so stubborn. He loves to cuddle and would crawl into your lap if he could. He has become quite proficient at pulling a cart.

Hershey

Our 17-year-old Shetland Welsh pony Hershey is chocolate colored with flaxen mane and tail. Hershey may be pint-sized in stature but he certainly is not in attitude.  Because of his small size we can push him around, but he will push back when he’s thinks he’s had too much. Everyone loves Hershey, and he is the main event for those under 6. Hershey just learned to pull a cart, but he acts like he has driven forever and really loves to strut his stuff when under harness.

Hobby

Hobby, a stately black and white Tobiano Paint who was raised by Edith Cain, a well known performer in rodeos and parades around California.  Many of her beautiful show outfits are now displayed in the Gene Autry Museum .  Hobby came into the Shrine Mounted Patrol about 15 years ago when Edith could no longer ride him.  Since then he has appeared in the Rose Parade in Pasadena , the Grand National Rodeo at the Cow Palace , the Rose Parade in Portland , OR and numerous other parades and charity events many times.  He has also entertained children at the Shrine Hospital and therapy riding units many times and has been a favorite for all children.

His owners are now pleased to have him continue helping children in the Hoofprints on the Heart program where he is loved for his patience, calm demeanor and good manners. In his spare time he still performs in events and parades with the Mounted Patrol.

Patches

Patches, a black and white Tobiano Paint mare, came to California from Idaho about 5 years ago and lived with a young family in Modesto.  The family had trouble making ends meet, so they donated Patches to the California Pinto Rangers in 2008.  Since then she has proven perfect for parades and other charity events and for working with children at Hoofprints. She has learned her job quickly and is love by all for her willingness to work. Her stocky size is proving to be important since she can carry heavier loads. Her owners are proud she has also made the "grade" at Hoofprints on the Heart and continues working with special needs people.  She can also be seen performing in parades and other charity events around California when Hoofprints can spare her for a short while.
