Second Eagle Scout Project Completed

Service Projects are always welcome at Hoofprints on the Heart.  Robert Reed from Boy Scout Troop 939 in Livermore is the second scout to complete a Eagle Project for the riding center. On Feb. 7, 2009 Robert and his troop built a tall gate that will serve as the first station on the Sensory Trail around the ranch.  Children will ride their horses through the various stations on the trail and experience different sounds, textures and colors.  It is all part of individualizing each child's experience at HOTH and using as many modalities as possible to reach their therapy goals.

The scouts also helped clean up the ranch, stuffing a dumpster with brush and trash.  The ranch looks much better as a result of their efforts.  Thank-you Troop 939! And Congratulations to Robert upon earning the rank of Eagle Scout!

Fundraising Opportunities

HOTHARC is a member of the Lucky S.H.A.R.E.S. program.  You can pick up a S.H.A.R.E.S. card at the ranch or get one from a board member. No registration necessary.  Just present your card at checkout at any Lucky, Save Mart, S-Mart Foods or FoodMaxx  store and 3% of your grocery bill will be donated to HOTHARC.  There is no easier way to donate to our riding center.  Take a card home to your neighbors and friends.

Support Groups for Parents and Families with Special Needs Children

Support Groups for Families with special needs children begin March 19, 2009 from 5:30 to 7PM at Hagemann Ranch.  These groups will continue on every third Thursday of the month throughout the year. Families will share a potluck meal prior to the group meeting from 5:30 to 6PM. Babysitting will be available on request.  Chris Brown, who has been working at Hoofprints for the past year, will lead the groups.  He is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and has had extensive experience in the field of social work and working with special needs children. Families will be able to share experiences, offer each other support, and share resources. Download the attached flyer for more information or call (925) 426-9182 to reserve your place.

Horses for Heroes begins

December 3, 2008 marked the beginning of the Horses for Heroes Program at Hoofprints on the Heart.  We have been planning for this program for quite awhile and are thrilled that we are now able to serve Veterans with both driving and riding experiences. We welcome volunteers, especially other veterans, who would like to assist with this program.

Light the Night Justice for Lucky and Choctow

The killer or killers of these two beautiful horses are still at large.  To call attention to the investigation of this horendous crime and to increase community involvement, animal lovers from around the Tri-Valley are uniting for a Candlelight Vigil at Robertson Park in Livermore.  Please join us on Saturday, November 22 from 6-8 p.m.  This event is sponsored by Shriners Hospitals, East Bay SPCA, and Hoofprints on the Heart.
